I love tiles. When I go and look for tiles for a client, I always spend a lot of time just browsing all the fantastic colour, shapes and patterns. Choosing the right tiles for from what is available can be overwhelming if you don’t know what look you want.
It’s very easy to be swept up in the latest design trends and choose tiles that are popular “right now” but may date your bathroom very quickly.
If you want to give your bathroom a timeless look, read on to find out how.
There is always a lot of choice in white tiles. They are a timeless and safe choice when you are looking for something that won’t date. Whether you like gloss, matte or a textured finish, you will always find a white tile to suit your style and space.
White tiles are an excellent choice for walls, but not practical for the floor unless you love cleaning (hmmm, I certainly don’t know anyone who does!). You can pair white tiles with any floor colour you like depending on the look you want.
For a light and fresh look, try beige or light grey for a timeless look. For something a little more individual, try bolder colours or a patterned tile.
Marble tiles are the look at the moment and have been for some time. They are a classic and timeless. They come in a variety of looks from very subtle veins through to bold, darker veins.
You can do a whole bathroom in just one style of tile or mix it up by using a solid coloured tile on the floor. Pick a colour out of the marble tile and use this in your floor tiles.
Patterned tiles are are always popular. You are really spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting patterns. You can really create a unique space with these, one that suits your personality and style.
Patterns on the bathroom floor are on trend, and they are great for hiding dust and hair, which I think is a bonus!
Select from geometric shapes like hexagons or penny rounds and try using different coloured grout to accentuate the shapes.
Try mixing patterns. Use one on the floor and a different one on the walls. If you are going to try this look, I would suggest you keep the tiles in a similar colour so that they relate to each other.
Create a feature in the shower, around your mirror or just a row of patterned tiles to introduce some pattern without overwhelming the space.
One trend I am loving at the moment is terrazzo. While it goes in and out of fashion, it always looks great and are very durable.
There are many beautiful bathrooms using terrazzo floor tiles. They make a statement all on their own, and you can pair them with a plain wall tile to make them the feature of the bathroom.
There are so many options you can use with tiles to create a unique space. You can lay them in different patterns, use different coloured grout, have a feature wall of tiles the options are endless.
These are just some of the timeless styles that will give you a contemporary looking bathroom that you will love for years to come.
Tell me in the comments what your favourite tile is.
Until next time,
